Hi friends!
About two weeks ago, my husband and I packed up most of our belongings into a POD and left it up to the POD guys to transfer our stuff across the country while we, along with our two kids and a dog, drive cross country to our new home in Orlando, Florida. Given that people move everyday it doesn’t seem like anything out of the ordinary except a) Florida is on the opposite side of the country, more than 3,000 miles from Portland, Oregon, where we used to live, and b) we’re doing it the old school way by driving. It was my idea. And no, my husband is not too happy with me right now for even daring to suggest such a thing. “Why don’t we just fly?” He whined…to which I replied, “Because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
It’s true. Who gets to see 11 states in such a short period of time? Not many. And better — who gets to choose? I doubt not many either. The fact that we have this choice means that we should embrace the opportunity, do it once and call it an adventure. I’m pretty certain that once this road trip is over, I will never want to do it again.
So far, we’ve only had one mini argument—me and him arguing about the lack of clothing that someone (ahem, me) brought which required a trip to a local Walmart in Memphis TN to buy a few more pieces of clothing and a little freak out between me and my daughter. Somehow, I seem to be the common denominator in all of this…at any rate, we’ve had lots of fun thus far.
As of this writing, we only have one and a half day left of driving, or about 6 1/2 hours left. We’ve surpassed the rough, long days full of barren terrains with hours of iPad, books, music, riddles, dad jokes, conversations and at least one lecture from my husband about the history of Vietnam. And every day, about an hour or so before we get to our destination we’ve had the pleasure of listening to our dog Jackie pant in the backseat like she’s about to drown in the ocean and can’t swim. It’s quite entertaining until you realize she’s been doing it for more than five hours, with only a break when she’s let out of the vehicle for a restroom break. Yep, it’s been fun.
Here are some snaps from our trip thus far. Stay tuned for more in about a week!

I love the photos. The scenery is unlike anything we have in Australia. I hope you arrived safely.
