Hi friends,
I’ve been thinking a lot about where this newsletter is headed and what I want to write about. And I was inspired by the idea of ‘seasons.’ Many podcasts do this, as well as several publications, including this one and this one. I thought, why not do the same? Why not dive into a particular set of topics (or themes), take some time off to recharge, then start a new season?
That’s exactly what I’m going to do.
For our first “season,” (which is roughly end of May till August) we’ll be diving into what I call “The Hard Stuff.” Things like war, famine, poverty, mental health, money, jobs, etc. Things that people experience viscerally but doesn’t talk about.
For our second season, I plan on focusing on literature and media representation of Asian Americans, with a focus on food-related memoirs/books and films in which Vietnamese people are at the center (or a lack thereof).
That should take care of the rest of 2022. As you can tell, I’m always editing, revising, and rethinking about the direction of this newsletter. That might throw you off a little bit - you might be thinking, “I thought I signed up for some food content??” but trust me when I say that I want to make the time you read this valuable. After all, time is valuable and there a literally hundreds if not thousands of newsletters (about food and other things) that you could be reading. I truly want to make this a place that you can count on to consistently bring you good content.
Did you like this post?
Let me know what you think~
Thanks!
Hoang
